It's a small world after all...

So on Saturday, on my way to Pretoria for my cousin's birthday (more about that later), I went into Woolies Foods while Chris was getting a present for Johan. Felt peckish and knew it's quite a drive and then still quite some time before we would eat, so was walking up and down trying to make up my mind about what I felt like having. Eventually decided on a packet of crisps and went back to the que. Ended up standing behind a lady whom I had passed a few times in the store. We were the only ones in the que, and she kept looking at me exceptionally friendly, lol! I couldnt understand why, as I was in a rather crappy mood because I have to replace my reading glasses etc (more about that later!). So she asks me what my name and surname is... turns out she's been following my blog and recognised me!!!!! She got the link for my blog from Nate's blog. So Nate, thanks for bringing 2 South Africans "together"! Was really cool meeting you Michelle, we should get together for coffee!

I also want to congratulate my Dr Paul and Jenny on the birth of their cute daughter Dominique!!!! She's very lucky to have such awesome parents, hope she brings you loads of joy!

My weekend was fairly quiet. My cousin Elmien and her husband Johan had their joint b-day party on sat evening, which was VERY nice!!! Also had to go pick a new frame... think I've mentioned I lost my glasses while watching Alice in wonderland (clearly MY BRAIN was in wonderland) in 3D... so had to go order new ones... tried to pick cheapest frame I could find!!!! All this going to PE for wedding stuff and buying a house and getting married is NOT CHEAP!!!!! Will probably only get it the week after next, as next week I'm on "HOLIDAY"

This week's been ROUGH so far, but at least it's just 4 working days, and on Friday Chris and I'll be doing the 11 hour drive to PE... please pray for our safety, as Easter's prime time for organ donation as a result of road accidents. Good thing if you're waiting, bad if you're also on those roads!!!!

Eva's legacy...

Those of you who follow my blog will know I wrote about Eva a while back, who received her lungs 3 months prior to me getting mine. Unfortunately she passed away yesterday morning 9h30 Canadian time. I was so hoping she's get a 3rd chance and get some new lungs, but it wasn't meant to be :-( Rest In Peace Eva, you were SO inspirational and awesome.

26 months today!!!!

Had awesome long weekend to celebrate the 26 months! We had so much fun, totally made up for last week being crappy! Had Sunday lunch at the Vaal river, saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D, went to Parker's Comedy Club, went shopping, ate out... was just great.

Also had my foot checked out again today, and all's well. So no more crutches, yay! This week's going to be a 4-day week, as well as next week, and then we're going home to PE for a week. Will mostly be sorting out wedding stuff, but hopefully also have some time to relax.

Posted some pics of the weekend above.

Thank GOODNESS it's FRIDAY tomorrow!!!

WHAT A WEEK!!!!!!! I knew it was going to be a rough one, but not THIS rough! It started on Sat evening... We went to a braai with friends, and when we wanted to leave, close to midnight, Chris's car battery was DEAD. So we had to wait for Volkswagen Assist to come rescue us (jumpstart), and then we had to drive home with no power-steering or ABS... subsequently the whole Sunday morning was spent finding and fitting a new car battery for his car, which is not such an easy task with it being a SUNDAY.

When we finally had that sorted and after watching F1, we decided to go to gym for a swim. As I stepped out the door, I was such an idiot and I stepped skew on our doormat and fell... how blond. I figured it's not THAT sore, so went to gym anyway... not the best idea!!!!! Later that night my foot really started getting sore, and during the night it was REALLY PAINFULL. So Monday morning first thing my dad took me to casualty. LUCKILY nothing was broken (was scared of that with my bad bone density due to years of drinking prednisone), only hurt a ligament. They bandaged my foot up tightly, and gave me CRUTCHES :-(

Foot a lot better now, not sore anymore and I can kind of step on it, but have to use the crutches for a week, going back to casualty on Monday to have it checked out again. Hopefully it's all fine! Never realised how hard it is walking on crutches, my left leg is so stiff, and my hands are so sore from pushing down on them. Will appreciate my foot when it's in full use again! Thanks goodness I never needed crutches with my old lungs, I would NEVER have managed.

On Tuesday we signed transfer documents and tax stuff for the house, very exciting! We also went out for supper with Andrew (close friend who moved to JHB this month from PE). Yesterday I shared my personal story on organ donation to a big bunch of WITS University medical students, which was cool, apart from struggling around on campus with my crutches and feeling like such a clumsy idiot! Also had church cell last night.

Tomorrow is going to be CRAZY at work, have a deadline and lots of stuff to do, especially since Monday is a public holiday (Freedom Day?). BUT, Antoinette, my friend who updated this blog for me when I had my tx, will be coming to visit for the long weekend! So excited! Bummed that I won't be able to be majorly active physically, but sure we'll figure something out!
Have a great weekend! I'll have to take some pics again for a change!

Weekend, yay!

Wow, Rachael, who I blogged about a few days ago got her transplant like 2 days later! You can follow her progress here. She's doing well! Hoping to see Francois today as well, who's also doing great.

Don't have too much planned for the weekend, having a braai with friends tonight and need to go to the shops for a few things. Next week's going to be BUSY though! On Monday I have a dentist appointment (check-up), and we're signing stuff for our townhouse @ the attorneys. Tuesday I have my performance review at work, and Wednesday I'm doing a talk during lunch-time at WITS medical school about organ donation, or rather my personal story! And I have a deadline for work on Friday... And gymming/swimming in between. So best I rest out a bit this weekend.

Not much else news-wise... have a good weekend!

What excitement looks like!

So far so good, still have to sign final documents... then we're property owners!!!!!!

Rachy's transplant plea

Please check out this facebook friend of mine's link on her blog. She was on a BBC program and the clip is very touching. If you're in the UK or anywhere else for that matter please register as an organ donor. PLEASE.

Update on my friend Francois who got his lungs just under 2 weeks ago: he's doing GREAT, out of ICU, all the drainage pipes are out and no issues thusfar that I know of. There are so many people that are waiting for this same miracle...

JP Morgan Corporate Challenge!

Last night was the JP Morgan, it's a 5.6km run/walk that consists of only uphill and downhill, so it's quite a tough route. Especially if you're doing it as fast as possible! Unfortunately it was also raining for a bit this year (before we even started actually), so got rather soaked too! It's a corporate event so lots of companies enter teams and we all wear our team shirts. Afterwards there's supper for everyone (12 000 participants!!) and live music. I did it last year as well, and found it EASIER this year :-D Yay, so my fitness is better than a year ago!

The cool thing about this event, is that you're doing it with normal healthy people, so it's a true test of my transplanted lungs vs normal lungs. I know my lung function is "normal", but seeing it for yourself makes you realise how FLIPPEN BLESSED AND LUCKY I AM!!!!

For some reason I woke up at 1am and can't seem to fall back to sleep, which is strange considering I did so much exercise, but I'm not too fussed because tomorrow is Friday and my mom is coming!!!! Have a good weekend!!!

Mid-week update

So... Francois is doing GREAT, off the vent sitting in the chair etc! So awesome. Trevor had his heart biopsy yesterday, so the results will show if he's still having rejection or what's going on. Please spare a prayer for these 2!

So excited... Yesterday I swam in the gym again for the first time in more than 10 years!!!! I've never been a good swimmer, but used to enjoy swimming a but in the gym for exercise. So about 2 weeks ago I got the idea to try swimming again, because I'm getting bored with my gym routine, the pool looked so inviting, and swimming's good for the lungs... so I figured why not? Got myself some swimming gear over the weekend, and yesterday I took the plunge! Literally! Was SOOOO TIRING but great. And I slept like a BABY last night :-) Can't wait to go again.

Tomorow afternoon is the annual JP Morgan Corporate Challenge. 5.6km of walking/running, uphill/downhill... quite tough, but very rewarding afterwards. WISH ME LUCK!!!!!

Oh and my mom is coming up to JHB for the weekend, YAY! Going to do some WEDDING SHOPPING!!!!!
